Cosi

April 29, 2008

Last night I went to Cosi for dinner.  I created my own salad and had a bite of my friend's roasted turkey and brie sandwich, which was soo good! For dessert we made s'mores at the table, which was a lot of fun.  I highly recommend the s'mores there because it keeps the mess at the restaurant, rather than at home and they're so tasty!

Saturday

April 27, 2008
Yesterday morning I woke up early and walked to the Farmer's Market.  I bought some of that really good cheesy bread.  The Crazy Legs race was going on, which was fun to watch.  I was surprised at the huge turnout because it was so cold out! After watching a bit of the start of the race I walked down State Street and got a slice of Ian's pizza.  I obviously had the Mac 'n Cheese slice, which in my opinion is by far the best one.  I had a bite of my friends Chicken parm slice, which was also really good.

Friday night

Yesterday afternoon I went to the movies near the West Towne mall with a friend.  We saw the new Harold and Kumar movie, which was nowhere near as good as the first one.  It played up sterotypes a bit too much and had some really disgusting scenes, which I will not go into! So overall, it was a bit disapointment and a waste of money, but a good wayt to spend the rainy and cold afternoon.
After the movie, we drove to Granite City, one of my favorite restaurants in Madison, for dinner.  For an appetizer, we split the mussels in a creamy vodka tomato sauce, with the best dipping bread.  It was sooo good! For dinner I had the Asian Chicken salad, which was hands down one of the best ones I've ever had, so the meal was amazing.  Another great thing about the restaurant is that they brew their own beer there so it's really good.  In particular, I am a huge fan of the Bock because of its sweet flavor.

Amy's Cafe

April 25, 2008
I ate at Amy's Cafe for lunch today with a friend.  It was too bad the weather was so lousy because I love sitting outside on Gilman Street there.  I had my first veggie burger ever there and it was delicious! It actually tasted a bit like a turkey burger to be honest.  On top of the veggie burger I had Marinara sauce and melted provolone, which made it taste a bit like chicken parmisgan.  My side order was the spicy fries, which were pretty tasty too.  Some of my other favorite foods at Amy's include: Amy's Turkey wrap, Chicken Caesar salad with grilled tuna steak on top, Chicken Caesar pita, and the Southwest chicken wrap.  The appetizers are all really tasty and perfect for splitting too.

Takara

April 24, 2008
I LOVE Takara's lunch specials! I just got three rolls (Salmon Skin, California, and Alaska rolls) plus a side of Miso soup for $11.25.  What a great deal, considering their dinner prices are so much more expensive.  Some favorites at Takara include: sushi rolls-- Rainbow roll, Dragon roll, and Alaska roll, plus all of sushi/sushami (except eel because it creeps me out!!), and the Chicken Yaki Udon (noodle dish).  Hibachi is also really good there, but I only get it if we're sitting in a group at the hibachi tables, where you can watch the chef cook your food.

Ice Cream

April 24, 2008
Ever since I came to UW I  became a HUGE icecream addict (because back home in Philly we never had the really good dairy like in WI) so pretty much every other day the past few weeks I've been walking around downtown Madison in search for a new favorite flavor and or ice cream shop.  Although I've always loved getting Babcock ice cream at Memorial Union, now that the weather is nice the line for icecream is wayyy too long for my patience so I've avoided it there for the most part.  I also am in love with the ice cream at the Chocolate Shoppe, especially because they change their flavors so often.  Right now, my favorite flavors are probably "Heaps of Love" and "Fat Elvis," but I always try to get something new.  I also enjoy Cold Stone, although I have to admit I feel sick every time after I eat it because it's too creamy and rich for me.  Last night I had a "Cookie Doughn't You Want Some," with tons of cookie dough, and it was so good! And lastly, although custard may not count as icecream, I recently drove to Culver's for the first time ever and had vanilla custard with hot fudge sauce.  It was really good but a bit too thick for me, like Cold Stone.  So I think the Chocolate Shoppe wins my vote for now!

70 degrees!!

Monday April 21
Today was yet again another beautiful day!! I picked up food from Hawk's and sat outside during my lunch break to enjoy the warm, sunny weather.  I had a tuna melt and Hawk's spicy seasoned fries, which I am obsessed with. I have to admit the homeless people in the park across the street were a huge annoyance and distraction from my reading for class, but there wasn't anything I could do about it!

For dinner, my boyfriend and I are planning on getting sushi from Takara because Wasabi is closed on Mondays.  I have to admit, I love both restaurants equally as much and am very loyal to them both because I am a HUGE sushi addict, so I am very excited for tonight's meal!

Nice Day!

Sunday April 20

Today was a beautiful day! It was finally in the 70's or so! I took advantage of the nice weather by walking up to the capitol for brunch at The Old Fashioned, which is a great bar/restaurant.  A few of us split the cheese curds to start, which were delicious, and I had the walleye and eggs over easy for my main dish, which was great.  After brunch, we sat on a bench and watched a college bike race around the capitol.  Several hours later I walked to get ice cream at the Chocolate Shop but the line was out the door so I went to Cold Stone instead, which was still good.  Then I walked to the terrace and enjoyed some Miller Lite.  Tonight my roommates and I went to Quinton's to eat and drink outside and then we watched the NBA playoffs at the bar, where my favorite team the Philadelphia 76ers, beat the Detroit Pistons in a close game.

Farmer's Market

April 19, 2008

Today was the first day of the Farmer's Market at the state capitol! I got up early with some friends and we walked there for some food, in particular, some fresh cheese curds and some homemade cheesy bread.  Although we bought some great cheese curds, the spicy cheese bread was unfortunately already sold out by the time we got there! It was beautiful weather today though and a fun morning.

After the Farmer's Market, we went to Cafe Continental for a delicious brunch.  We split some fried calamari and fried oysters for an appetizer, drank a few good bloody mary's, and I had a broccoli and cheddar omelette for brunch.  It was a great meal.

DMX

DMX performed Friday night at the Orpheum on State Street, which was a really fun time.   A few of my friends went to the concert the night before at Indiana University and said the front row got pepper sprayed because of violence that broke out during the show, so I was glad the concert in Madison was totally under control and a good show.   The concert donated a percentage of the money to Children Uniting Nations, which was a plus because at least some of the proceeds went to a good cause.   On a side note, DJ KO's opening performance was fun because everyone was dancing and really into the music.
